The internet provides a wealth of information on how to
design and build your own custom, high-performance theater. We
suggest starting at Subwoofers.org
and searching the various forums. ACI has a manufacturers
forum at AudioCircle.
Two of our other favorite forums are: AV
Science Forum and HomeTheater
Forum. Additional links & resources can be found here.
Custom ACI models are designed to be mounted in-cabinet,
in-wall, or in-column. There are so many ways to design
cabinets, columns, etc. The perfect mounting for an ACI custom
speaker is a cutout that is just large enough for the speaker
to slide in with minimal clearance, 1/8 to 1/4" clearance
is ideal. The grill should be as close to flush as possible
without touching the exposed tweeter. The shelf or surface
that the speaker rests on should be as rigid and stiff as
possible to provide a solid platform for the speaker and
reduce vibrations being sent through the rest of the cabinet.
We provide small rubber feet to partially isolate the speaker
from the shelf.
The speakers should be placed in positions that follow the
Dolby recommendations as closely as is practical. Dolby
placement recommendations for 5.1 and 7.1 systems.
Many of us have constraints on placement dictated by the room
or specific cabinetry. For example, many people must place the
center channel below or above the screen rather than directly
behind it. In this instance, tilting the center up or down
toward the listening position makes a huge difference. We can
help you with other specific "work arounds" or
"tweaks." Email sales@audioc.com
with your specific questions.
